IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Heavy Rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya

New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya today. According to IMD, the northeastern states are expected to experience adverse weather conditions due to the onset of thunderstorms. IMD Senior Scientist Dr. Soma Sen Roy elaborated on the weather patterns, highlighting that these regions are likely to see significant changes in their weather conditions in the coming days.

Dr. Sen Roy stated that the intensity of rainfall and thunderstorms will be particularly strong in Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Assam. Heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected to continue for the next two days, making the weather conditions potentially hazardous for local populations. The weather disturbances could lead to disruptions in normal life, with chances of landslides, especially in areas that are prone to such events due to the heavy rains.

The IMD has advised people in the affected regions to remain cautious and stay updated on weather forecasts. As thunderstorms and lightning can pose risks to safety, locals are urged to avoid outdoor activities, particularly in areas that may experience the brunt of these conditions. In addition to the thunderstorms, heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods and inundation in certain low-lying areas. The IMD has also issued advisories for travelers in the region to be alert and take necessary precautions, especially while traveling through hilly or mountainous terrains, where the risk of landslides is higher.

Dr. Sen Roy further mentioned that these weather conditions are associated with a low-pressure system that is developing over the Bay of Bengal, which is influencing the weather patterns in the northeastern states. The system is expected to intensify over the next 48 hours, leading to more intense rainfall and stormy conditions in the region. The IMD is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to update the public with regular weather alerts.
