Rahul Gandhi Demands Debate on Voters’ List in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 10, 2025: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, raised concerns over the voters’ list and called for a discussion in the House.

Speaking during Zero Hour, Gandhi emphasized the gravity of the issue, stating that serious questions are being raised regarding the accuracy of voter lists.

“You (Speaker) correctly stated that the government does not prepare the voters’ list. However, concerns about voter lists are being raised across the country,” Gandhi said.

He further claimed that these concerns were predominantly surfacing in opposition-ruled states. Referring to Maharashtra, he said, “In Maharashtra, these doubts are being documented in black and white.”

Gandhi asserted that the entire opposition was united on this issue and demanded a detailed debate in the House.

Notably, after the INDI Alliance’s defeat in the Maharashtra assembly elections last year, Gandhi had consistently voiced concerns about a sudden surge in new voters, particularly between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in the state.

Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted and adjourned till noon following protests by DMK members over the implementation of the New Education Policy in Tamil Nadu.
