Home Minister Amit Shah chairs High-Level Meeting on Delhi’s Law & Order with CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, February 28, 2025 – Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting today to assess the law and order situation in the national capital. The meeting was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, Delhi Home Minister Shri Ashish Sood, Delhi Police Commissioner, Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau, Chief Secretary of Delhi, and several senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, Delhi Government, and Delhi Police.

During the meeting, the Home Minister emphasized the need for strict law enforcement and urged authorities to take firm action against criminal networks, illegal intruders, and underperforming police divisions. He stated that the double-engine government of Delhi will work at an accelerated pace to fulfill the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for a developed and secure national capital.

Key Directives Issued by the Home Minister

National Security and Crime Prevention

  • Strict action should be taken against networks assisting Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders in entering the country, acquiring documents, and settling illegally.
  • Delhi Police must eliminate interstate criminal gangs with a targeted and aggressive approach.
  • Police stations and subdivisions with consistently poor performance will face strict action.
  • New security committees will be established in JJ clusters to enhance the safety of women and children.

Judicial and Police Reforms

  • Special prosecutors should be appointed to ensure the swift resolution of 2020 Delhi riots cases.
  • The recruitment process for additional Delhi Police posts will be expedited.
  • DCP-level officers must conduct public hearings at police stations to address citizen grievances effectively.
  • ACPs should personally oversee serious cases to enhance police accountability.

Traffic Management and Infrastructure

  • Delhi Police approval will no longer be required for construction-related matters.
  • To tackle daily traffic congestion, the Delhi Police Commissioner and Chief Secretary will work on immediate solutions.
  • The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will deploy Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to clear broken-down buses and minimize disruptions.

Narcotics Control and Prison Reforms

  • Authorities must adopt a top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach to dismantle narcotics networks in Delhi.
  • Tihar and Mandoli jails will be developed into model prisons with enhanced security and infrastructure.

Monsoon Preparedness and Public Safety

  • The Delhi Government must draft a Monsoon Action Plan to address waterlogging issues by identifying vulnerable locations in advance.

Shri Amit Shah concluded the meeting by emphasizing that a strong partnership between Delhi Police and the Delhi Government is essential to making the national capital an ideal city with efficient law enforcement, improved infrastructure, and public safety measures.
