Hyderabad, Jan 6, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the cutting-edge Cherlapally Railway Terminal virtually on Monday. Built at an investment of Rs 413 crore, this terminal is designed to offer airport-like amenities and efficiency, marking a major leap in Telangana’s railway infrastructure development. The terminal features modern facilities, including six escalators, seven lifts, separate waiting areas for men and women, a premium waiting lounge, and an executive lounge. On the first floor, there is a cafeteria, a restaurant, and restrooms. At present, 13 pairs of trains operate from the terminal, with plans to introduce an additional 12 trains. During the inauguration event at Cherlapally Railway Terminal, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma applauded the significant impact of initiatives such as “Make in India” and the launch of Vande Bharat trains. He also highlighted the rapid growth of the South Central Railway, noting that the state’s railway budget allocation has surged from Rs 58 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 5,300 crore in 2024-25. The Cherlapally Terminal is expected to alleviate congestion at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda stations while improving both passenger and freight services. Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State for Railways Somanna for their instrumental contributions to the Rs 413-crore Cherlapally Railway Terminal. Reddy emphasized the transformative strides in Indian Railways, including new rail lines, modernized stations, and the electrification process, all of which have significantly improved connectivity. The Cherlapally Terminal is poised to enhance passenger transit in the outskirts of Hyderabad and play a key role in freight transport. Additionally, MMTS services from Cherlapally to Ghatkesar are expected to further expand local transportation options. Under the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,” 40 railway stations in Telangana are being upgraded, part of a national effort to modernize 1,350 stations across the country. Telangana has also made substantial progress in railway development, with 346 km of new railway lines, full electrification, and the introduction of five Vande Bharat trains, which will improve regional connectivity. Key projects include the Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit, which is expected to create thousands of jobs, and the extension of MMTS services to Yadadri. The redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station aims to meet international standards, although state cooperation in land acquisition remains critical for further advancements. The Modi government has emphasized infrastructure development, investing Rs 1.2 lakh crore for national highways and Rs 26,000 crore for the Triple R Road project, underscoring its commitment to Telangana’s growth. Union Minister of State for Railways Somanna reiterated the government’s dedication to modernizing Indian Railways through significant investments in electrification, safety features, and new infrastructure. Telangana has seen the construction of 346 km of new railway tracks, 370 km of double tracks, and the electrification of 1,088 km of railway lines. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar praised Union Minister Kishan Reddy for his role in the terminal’s development and emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing connectivity through railways, aviation, and roads. He also highlighted major projects like the modernization of Secunderabad and Nampally railway stations and the Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit. Eatala Rajender, MP, SCR officials, and other dignitaries participated in the event.
