New Delhi – Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani, one of India’s most decorated military leaders, has officially retired today after completing 39 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army. The day also marks his stepping down as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS), a position he held with great distinction.

Commissioned into The Garhwal Rifles in December 1985, Lt Gen Subramani began his journey in the armed forces from the prestigious National Defence Academy. Known for his intellectual prowess, he holds a Master of Arts degree from King’s College, London, and an M.Phil. in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.

Over nearly four decades, the General Officer has served in a wide spectrum of command, staff, and instructional roles. His operational expertise, especially along India’s sensitive Western and Northern borders, has played a key role in enhancing the Army’s readiness and India’s national security framework.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the nation, Lt Gen Subramani has been awarded several prestigious medals including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal.

The Indian Army has extended its deepest gratitude to Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani for his unwavering dedication and visionary leadership. As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, the entire defence fraternity wishes him continued success and fulfillment in all future endeavors.
