Kota- A 45-year-old retired Army man was allegedly murdered in a chilling conspiracy in Kota, with police arresting his wife and an accomplice while the main convict remains absconding. The victim, Manoj Kumar Sharma, was found dead at his residence in the Avani Road area under RK Puram police station limits.
According to police, Sharma was strangled to death on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, allegedly by his wife Deepika, her lover Devesh, and his friend Vishnu. Initial suspicion arose when the accused attempted to perform the last rites early Friday morning without informing Sharma’s parents, who reside in Kishangarh, Ajmer. Alerted by neighbours, the parents rushed to Kota, halted the cremation, and filed a complaint.
Investigators found strangulation marks on the body, confirming foul play. During questioning, it emerged that Deepika was in a relationship with Devesh, who frequently visited the house in Sharma’s absence. On the night of the incident, Sharma, Devesh, and Vishnu allegedly consumed alcohol, during which a heated argument broke out. Police said Devesh and Vishnu then strangled Sharma to death in the presence of his wife.
At the time of the incident, the couple’s children were reportedly asleep in an upstairs room. Based on the complaint filed by Sharma’s father, a case of murder and criminal conspiracy has been registered against the three accused. While Deepika and Vishnu have been arrested, Devesh is currently on the run, with police teams conducting raids to trace him.
Family members have also alleged that the relationship between Sharma and his wife had been strained for years, with frequent domestic disputes reported. Further investigation into the case is underway.
