India Set to Become Global Hub for AI Data Centre Components: Vaishnaw

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said India is steadily emerging as a trusted global partner in electronics manufacturing as he inaugurated global manufacturing company Jabil’s advanced manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon near Pune, Maharashtra.

The state-of-the-art facility will manufacture critical components for artificial intelligence (AI) data centres, supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Make in India, Make for the World.” The inauguration was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, underscoring the importance of the project for India’s growing technology and manufacturing sectors.

Sharing the development on social media platform X, Vaishnaw said the new plant reflects India’s ambition to become a reliable global hub for electronics production. He noted that the facility would contribute significantly to the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure industry, which is witnessing increasing demand worldwide due to the growing adoption of artificial intelligence technologies.

The project marks another milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its electronics manufacturing ecosystem and attract global investments in high-technology sectors. Industry experts believe the facility will enhance domestic production capabilities while creating new employment opportunities and boosting exports.

Jabil has been steadily expanding its presence in India. Last year, the company announced investments of more than ₹2,000 crore in the country for Silicon Photonics and Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS). Vaishnaw had also stated that Jabil’s manufacturing plant at Sanand, Gujarat, was nearing completion.

A global leader in manufacturing solutions, Jabil operates more than 100 facilities across over 25 countries and employs over 140,000 people worldwide. The company serves major international brands in sectors such as healthcare, smartphones, cloud equipment, packaging, automotive and home appliances.

Jabil has also emerged as a major beneficiary under the Government of India’s Telecom Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. According to Department of Telecommunications data, the company received ₹235.87 crore in incentives over two financial years, the highest among all companies covered under the scheme.

The new facility is expected to further strengthen India’s position as a global destination for advanced electronics and AI-related manufacturing.
