New Delhi, September 8, 2025 – India’s unemployment rate has dropped to 2%, the lowest among G20 nations, according to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, announced today. He highlighted the role of government initiatives and sectoral growth in creating extensive employment opportunities, reinforcing India’s rapid economic development.
Dr. Mandaviya addressed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and organizations Mentor Together and Quikr. The agreements aim to enhance youth employability and provide easier access to employment opportunities through the National Career Service (NCS) portal. Since its inception, NCS has mobilized over 7.22 crore vacancies, with more than 44 lakh currently active, serving nearly 5.79 crore registered job-seekers and 52 lakh employers.
The Mentor Together partnership is set to provide personalized career mentoring to two lakh youth during its first year, including guidance for first-time job seekers and underserved communities. Over 24,000 trained professionals will offer city- and district-level outreach to ensure no job-seeker is left behind. Meanwhile, Quikr will integrate more than 1,200 daily job listings from across 1,200+ cities into the NCS portal, expanding real-time access to opportunities, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
Dr. Mandaviya also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), part of the government’s ₹2 lakh crore employment package, which aims to create over 3.5 crore jobs in two years. Schemes such as MUDRA and PM SVANidhi further support entrepreneurship and self-employment.
Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, lauded NCS as India’s leading platform for digital employment facilitation, providing job matching, counselling, and skilling at one place. These collaborations, she added, will enable structured support for youth, bridging the gap between job-seekers and private sector opportunities.
Together, these efforts reflect a future-ready, inclusive, and digitally empowered employment ecosystem, ensuring brighter prospects for India’s youth and workforce.
