New Delhi, September 11, 2025- The Delhi Police on Thursday unveiled the official emblem of its elite Dog Squad (K-9 Unit) in a ceremonial event at the Delhi Police Headquarters. The emblem was launched by Commissioner of Police Sh. Satish Golcha, IPS, in the presence of senior officers, marking a significant milestone for the unit. The emblem will now be displayed on the uniforms, jackets, and gear of all K-9 personnel, symbolizing their dedicated service and elite status.

Established in 1967, the Dog Squad functions under the Crime Branch and plays a vital role in crime detection, explosive and narcotics identification, and other high-security operations across the national capital. The unit maintains strict standards of care to ensure a healthy, stress-free environment for its highly trained dogs, enhancing their performance in critical tasks.
Tracker Dogs: Deployed to trace stolen property and identify suspects through scent evidence.
Explosive Detection Dogs: Conduct anti-sabotage checks at public venues, VIP/VVIP routes, and major events to ensure safety.
Narcotics Detection Dogs: Detect illegal substances in residences, vehicles, luggage, and on individuals involved in drug trafficking.
The K-9 Unit operates from 10 key locations, including Model Town, Chanakyapuri, Kalyanpuri, Daryaganj, Sabzi Mandi, Maurya Enclave, R.K. Puram Sector-12, Dwarka Sector-16A, Janakpuri, and Pushp Vihar.
These teams conduct regular patrols and anti-sabotage checks at markets, malls, transport hubs, and critical installations. They are also deployed during high-security events like Independence Day, Republic Day, and visits by national and international dignitaries at venues such as Rashtrapati Bhavan, Supreme Court, Vigyan Bhawan, and Hyderabad House.
K-9 handlers and their canine partners undergo advanced training alongside premier institutions, including the NSG, BSF, CRPF, and Delhi Police Academy, to enhance their explosive and contraband detection capabilities.
