Bargi Dam Boat Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 13, One Tourist Still Missing After Storm Capsizes Cruise

Rescue teams continue search operations in Narmada River as officials confirm 43 passengers were onboard during the accident

Jabalpur- The death toll in the tragic boat capsize incident at Bargi Dam has risen to 13 after rescue teams recovered two more bodies on Sunday, while one tourist remains missing. The accident occurred on Thursday evening when a sudden storm with strong winds of 40–60 km/h overturned the tourist vessel “Narmada Queen” in the reservoir of the Narmada River, around 35 km from Jabalpur.

Officials confirmed that a total of 43 tourists were onboard the cruise at the time of the incident, out of which 29 were rescued. Among the deceased are eight women, four children, and one man. The latest victims have been identified as Kamraaj R (45), an employee of Ordnance Factory Khamraja, and his nine-year-old nephew Mauryan, both residents of Tamil Nadu. Tragically, most of Kamraaj’s family members who were travelling with him also lost their lives, with only one child surviving.

According to authorities, the sudden weather change caused panic as the boat lost control and capsized. Rescue operations are still underway, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) continuing efforts to locate the missing individual, while the Army has withdrawn from the site.

Preliminary findings and CCTV footage have confirmed the passenger count, and further investigations are ongoing into safety lapses and weather warnings at the time of the incident.
