Oregon Bomb Attack: Car Rams Multnomah Athletic Club, Suspect Found Dead

Explosives discovered at Portland site after fiery crash; facility shut indefinitely amid investigation

Portland– A dramatic and disturbing incident unfolded in Portland where a man drove a vehicle into the Multnomah Athletic Club before a fire broke out, leaving the suspect dead and triggering a major bomb disposal operation.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene in the early hours of Saturday after reports that a vehicle had crashed into the building’s entrance and was engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze, after which a body was discovered inside the vehicle.

Authorities later confirmed that multiple improvised explosive devices and propane tanks were found at the site, raising serious concerns about the scale and intent of the attack. Bomb disposal teams were deployed to safely handle the devices, some of which had already detonated and caused extensive structural damage.

Officials said the situation was highly complex, with investigators using specialised robots and remote techniques to secure the area and prevent further explosions. The presence of a nearby gas line added to the risk, prompting heightened caution during the operation.

Police have indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the public, but a detailed investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and whether the suspect acted alone.

In a statement, the club confirmed that no members or staff were injured during the incident, though the building suffered heavy damage. Authorities have ordered the facility to remain closed until further notice while safety checks and investigative procedures continue.

Law enforcement agencies, including bomb squads and fire services, are coordinating closely as they continue to examine the scene and gather evidence related to the attack.
