Tripura CM Manik Saha Presents Appointment Letters to 42 GDMOs, Stresses Health Sector Expansion

42 doctors join Tripura’s health services as CM Manik Saha pushes recruitment drive and announces plans for advanced medical treatment.

Agartala, August 26, 2026; Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to 42 General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs), underlining the state government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and address the shortage of doctors.

The appointment letters were presented during a programme at Pragya Bhavan, where Saha also inaugurated a training programme for dentists and Community Health Officers (CHOs).

Saha said the government is focusing on expanding healthcare infrastructure and increasing the availability of medical professionals so that people across Tripura, including those living in rural and underserved areas, can access better treatment facilities.

He said recruitment to vacant positions in the Health Department is being accelerated through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). According to the Chief Minister, the government is pursuing a merit-based and transparent recruitment process while working to ensure that available opportunities reach eligible candidates.

Addressing the newly appointed GDMOs, Saha said government medical service carries responsibilities beyond regular employment as doctors directly deal with people’s health and lives. He encouraged the doctors to approach patients with empathy and provide treatment with a sense of service.

The Chief Minister also asked medical professionals to continuously upgrade their knowledge and remain familiar with emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and advances in modern medicine.

Saha further announced that the state government is taking steps towards introducing heart and liver transplant services in Tripura, signalling plans to expand the range of advanced medical treatment available within the state.

Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director of Health Dr Debashree Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Dr Anjan Das, Acting Director of Health Education Dr Abhijit Dutta and Indian Dental Association Tripura State Branch President Dr Amit Lal Goswami were among those present at the programme.

The event marked another step in the state’s efforts to increase medical manpower, strengthen healthcare services and improve access to specialised treatment for citizens.
