Mayawati Announces BSP Will Go Solo in Punjab Assembly Elections

Lucknow, August 26, 2026; Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has announced that her party will contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections independently, ruling out any electoral alliance or seat-sharing arrangement with other political parties.

During a review meeting at the BSP Central Camp Office in Lucknow, Mayawati assessed the party’s organisational preparations and efforts to expand its support base in Punjab. She directed senior party leaders and workers to intensify grassroots mobilisation and strengthen the organisation at the polling booth level.

Mayawati stressed the need to select committed, honest and capable candidates for the Punjab polls. She said the party should work towards securing a stronger electoral position in the state while presenting the BSP’s Ambedkarite ideology and its stated policy of “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay” to voters.

The BSP chief also reviewed feedback on earlier organisational directions and instructed party functionaries to address weaknesses without delay. She called for greater coordination among workers and sustained preparations at the grassroots to improve the party’s performance.

Referring to the upcoming political programmes in Punjab, Mayawati directed the state unit to ensure extensive preparations for the October 9 programme marking the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. She also asked the Punjab unit to strengthen financial participation for the ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’ scheduled for January 15, 2027.

Explaining the decision to contest the Punjab election independently, Mayawati said past electoral alliances had affected the BSP’s vote share and the morale of its workers. She therefore called upon party members to rely on the organisation’s own strength and remain prepared to counter the strategies of rival parties.

The BSP is also preparing for the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Assembly elections expected early next year, with Mayawati directing the party to maintain an independent electoral strategy in these states as well.

The BSP chief urged workers to remain united and intensify their efforts to secure better electoral results while advancing the party’s political and social agenda in Punjab.
