Bahin, Palwal, August 15, 2026; Independence Day celebrations at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bahin, focused on an important message of dignity, health and environmental responsibility as 300 girl students received eco-friendly sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene kits.

The initiative was organised with the support of KBC Welfare Society and Saukhyam Foundation and aimed to promote awareness about menstrual health while encouraging sustainable practices. Dr. Shiv Singh Rawat, Dr. Praveen Bisht, Colonel Kanwarpal Rawat and Dr. Kusum Rawat attended the programme as special guests.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Praveen Bisht remembered the freedom fighters whose sacrifices led to India’s independence and said the true meaning of freedom extends beyond political independence. He urged students to overcome fear, self-doubt and negative thinking in their personal and academic lives.

Dr. Shiv Singh Rawat said the progress of the country must also be measured by the confidence and opportunities available to its daughters. Referring to menstrual health, he stressed that girls should not be held back by embarrassment, misconceptions or social taboos associated with menstruation.

He said menstruation is a normal biological function and called for conversations about menstrual health to be based on scientific information rather than stigma. According to him, access to appropriate menstrual products and awareness about hygiene can contribute to better health, regular school attendance, self-confidence and the overall empowerment of young women.

Rawat also connected menstrual hygiene with environmental responsibility. He pointed out that the growing volume of discarded sanitary waste creates challenges for waste management and can contribute to pollution when disposed of improperly. He encouraged students to adopt responsible waste-management habits and become role models for reducing unnecessary plastic consumption.

Colonel Kanwarpal Rawat spoke about the sacrifices made by India’s freedom fighters and urged the students to think about their responsibilities towards the nation. He encouraged young people to explore opportunities in public service and the armed forces while maintaining discipline and a strong sense of duty.

Dr. Kusum Rawat conducted an awareness session on menstrual hygiene and explained the appropriate use and care of reusable sanitary pads provided during the programme. She demonstrated the importance of washing, drying and storing the pads properly and informed the students that reusable pads can remain usable for an extended period when maintained correctly.

The school also presented its annual achievements during the event. Principal Shiv Kumar Gupta shared details of the institution’s academic and other accomplishments and thanked the organisations and guests associated with the initiative. He said the programme had brought an additional social purpose to the Independence Day celebrations.

School lecturer Jagat Singh Rawat conducted the programme and acknowledged the contribution of KBC Welfare Society and Saukhyam Foundation towards education, health awareness and women’s empowerment. Rajveer, SMC In-charge, also addressed the gathering.

The event concluded with cultural presentations by the students. Performances featuring Haryanvi and Braj traditions, along with songs and other artistic presentations, added colour to the celebrations. Residents of Bahin village and other members of the local community were also present.

The programme combined the patriotic spirit of Independence Day with a wider message that education, menstrual awareness, personal dignity and environmental consciousness are essential elements of meaningful empowerment for girls.
