NEW DELHI,01 JULY 2026: Delhi Police today organised its Commissionerate Day with a Ceremonial Parade at the Parade Ground, New Police Lines, Kingsway Camp, Delhi. Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and took the ceremonial salute in the presence of Shri Satish Golchha, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Hon’ble LG Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, extended his greetings to the Commissioner of Police and the entire Delhi Police fraternity on the occasion of Commissionerate Day. He stated that the occasion reflects the remarkable evolution of Delhi Police as a professional institution and also congratulated all medal recipients. Hon’ble LG exhorted the force to commit itself to the core principles of Visible, Humane, and Technology-driven, people centric policing.
In 1978, the Delhi Police Act was enacted, introducing the Commissionerate System with effect from 1 July 1978. The Delhi Police Act, 1978, provides that the superintendence of the Delhi Police throughout the National Capital Territory of Delhi shall vest in and be exercised by the Administrator. As part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the year 2022, the Delhi Police introduced Commissionerate Day Parade, to be held annually on 1 July, beginning in 2022. On this occasion, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi takes the salute in his capacity as the Administrator of Delhi.

Quoting the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji, Hon’ble LG Delhi emphasised that policing must continue to become more professional, sensitive and responsive while ensuring citizen-centric service delivery. He stated that policing practices should remain aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat.
Hon’ble LG Delhi said that ensuring the safety and security of Delhi remains the foremost objective of Delhi Police, with special emphasis on the safety of women, children. Appreciating the remarkable recoveries made under Operation Vishwas, Hon’ble LG Delhi observed that such initiatives directly touch the lives of citizens by restoring their lost property and strengthening public confidence in the police. Speaking about traffic management in the national capital, he noted that stricter enforcement has become visible across the city and stressed that sustained public cooperation is essential for ensuring safer roads and stated that behavioural change among citizens is equally important to curb traffic violations such as wrong-side driving, triple riding and riding without helmets.
Highlighting the importance of community policing, Hon’ble LG Delhi described it as a vital pillar of effective public-police partnership. He encouraged young police officers to actively engage with members of the public, understand their concerns and strengthen trust between the police and the community. On human resource management front, Hon’ble LG Delhi, assured Delhi Police personnel of timely promotions and implementing a transparent and predictable transfer policy. Speaking on the welfare of police martyrs, he called for innovative initiatives to strengthen support for the families of martyrs, including the effective utilisation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. Hon’ble LG Delhi commended the participation of women in policing and lauded the Delhi Police Women Pipe and Brass Band.
Concluding his address, the Chief Guest Hon’ble LG Delhi, called upon all stakeholders to work together towards making Delhi the world’s finest urban city, stating that as India progresses towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, Delhi will play a pivotal role in achieving that vision.
In his welcome address, Shri Satish Golchha, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, welcomed the Chief Guest, Hon’ble LG Delhi and all distinguished guests and on behalf of every member of Delhi Police, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble LG Delhi for participating in today’s event. Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the CP Delhi paid tribute to all police officers and personnel who have proudly worn the uniform, served the nation with honesty and dedication, and contributed to making Delhi Police a stronger institution.
The CP Delhi stated that over the past few years, Delhi Police has undergone a significant transformation, with greater emphasis on crime prevention and technology-driven policing and the positive impact of these initiatives is clearly reflected in the crime statistics. Compared to 2025, heinous crimes have declined by 8 per cent, while offences registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have reduced by 12 per cent. Cases of motor vehicle theft and other thefts, where registration is online, have decreased by 21 per cent and 15 per cent respectively, the lowest figures recorded in the last ten years. PCR calls relating to robbery and snatching have also witnessed a substantial decline owing to improved police visibility and effective crime-control strategies. The CP Delhi reiterated that the safety of women, children and senior citizens remains the highest priority of Delhi Police. Crimes against women have declined by nearly 17 per cent, while the detection rate in such cases has reached an impressive 98 per cent, among the highest in the country. Nearly 95 per cent of these cases have been charge-sheeted within the prescribed statutory time limit. During the current year, charge sheets were filed within two weeks in 35 POCSO cases and 172 street crime cases.
On the issue of organised crime, the CP Delhi stated that through Operation Gang Bust and action under MCOCA, Delhi Police has targeted not only criminals but also the entire network providing them protection and logistical support. As a result, the use of firearms in heinous crimes has declined by 27 per cent during the current year.
With reference to the 10th Apex-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meeting chaired by the Hon’ble Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Shri Amit Shah ji, wherein a three-year Vision Document (2026–2029) under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched, calling upon all stakeholders to work in a time-bound manner, the CP, Delhi, has informed that, in line with this vision, Delhi Police has identified 123 narcotics hotspots through scientific analysis.
He further announced that, in accordance with the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Delhi Police will observe the month of July as Child Safety Awareness Month.
The ceremonial parade, commanded by Shri Kshitij Kumar, ACP, showcased exemplary discipline, precision, and coordination. The parade comprised 18 platoons, including 12 platoons (six male and six female) representing the six territorial ranges of Delhi Police. The remaining six platoons represented the Traffic Unit, SWAT (Special Cell), Delhi Police Security Battalion, Central Police Control Room (CPCR), Ministerial Staff, and Delhi Armed Police. The event also featured Delhi Police Male Brass Band and the Delhi Police Women Pipe & Brass Band.
On the occasion, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor presented the ‘Ahat Veer Samman Patra’ to honour police personnel who sustained injuries or made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties under challenging circumstances.
The ‘Ahat Veer Samman Patra-2026’ was conferred posthumously upon Late Constable Vikram. On 18 October 2025, while on duty at the Shalimar Bagh Flyover, Constable Vikram was inspecting traffic obstacles to ensure the smooth flow of traffic when he was struck by a speeding truck. He sustained grievous injuries and, despite all efforts, later succumbed to the injuries, making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The honour was received by the late constable’s wife Smt. Anita Singh on behalf of the deceased.
Police personnel honoured with the Ahat Veer Samman Patra for sustaining injuries in the line of duty included Inspr. (Exe.) Mahavir Prasad, SI (Exe.) Naresh Pal, ASI (Exe.) Sandeep, ASI (Exe.) Arun, W/HC (Exe.) Mamta, HC (Exe.) Jal Singh, Constable (Exe.) Rahul, Constable (Exe.) Manish, Constable (Exe.) Vikram, and Constable (Exe.) Ravinder.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor also presented the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) to 27 Delhi Police personnel, whose awards had been announced on the occasions of Republic Day and Independence Day, 2025.
Recognising excellence in cleanliness and civic upkeep, awards for the ‘Best Police Station in Cleanliness’ category were presented. Police Station Greater Kailash secured the first position, with SHO Inspector Bhanu Pratap receiving the trophy, while Police Station Laxmi Nagar secured the second position, and the trophy was received by SHO Inspector Ajit Kumar Jha.
Awards were also presented in the ‘Best Residential Colony of Delhi Police’ category. Police Colony, DPA, Sector-9, Dwarka won the Big Colony Category, with the award received by HC Darshan Lal. Police Colony Punjabi Bagh Staff Quarters was recognised in the Medium Colony Category, and the award was received by SI Kamal Sharma. Officers Residential Complex, PHQ was selected for the award in the Small Colony Category and the award was received by Inspector Neeraj Kumar.
The ceremony was attended by former Commissioners of Police, retired and serving senior police officers, and other distinguished guests, highlighting Delhi Police’s long tradition of dedicated service and its continued commitment to public safety and serving the people of Delhi.
