Kolhapur, June 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a ‘Dhanyawad Sabha’ in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, where he praised the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted the government’s efforts in development, cultural revival, national security, and technological advancement.
The event was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and several senior leaders.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement regarding the Ambabai Mahalaxmi Temple Corridor project in Kolhapur. The redevelopment initiative, estimated at ₹1,500 crore, aims to modernize the temple complex while preserving its historical and cultural significance.
Shah said the project would cover more than 28,000 square metres and include modern facilities such as AI-based security systems, heritage walkways, LED lighting, cultural galleries, a multipurpose hall, an Annachhatra, and improved amenities for pilgrims.
He noted that the redevelopment of the centuries-old temple marks a new chapter in Maharashtra’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The Home Minister said the past 12 years under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership have witnessed a cultural resurgence across India.
He highlighted major religious and heritage projects, including the Ram Mandir, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, Kedarnath Temple, Badrinath Temple, Somnath Temple, and the ongoing development of the Kamakhya Temple Corridor.
According to Shah, the Ambabai Corridor is another milestone under the government’s “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” vision, which focuses on development alongside preservation of heritage.
Shah congratulated Prime Minister Modi for becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. He said the period would be remembered as an era marked by rapid development, stronger national security, and enhanced global recognition for India.
He added that India’s influence on the world stage has increased significantly during the last decade.
Addressing national security issues, Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling illegal immigration.
He stated that infiltrators would be identified and deported, emphasizing that India cannot serve as a refuge for illegal entrants.
The Home Minister said border security and internal security remain top priorities for the government.
Shah also highlighted India’s progress in emerging technologies and manufacturing. He credited the Modi government with boosting sectors such as semiconductors, quantum technology, software development, data centres, and advanced manufacturing.
He said initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are helping India strengthen its position as a global manufacturing hub.
The Home Minister further pointed to achievements such as the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the Moon’s south pole, describing it as a proud moment for the nation.
According to Shah, the Ambabai Mahalaxmi Temple redevelopment will preserve nearby heritage structures while improving infrastructure for devotees.
He said the project will strengthen cultural tourism in Kolhapur and inspire younger generations to connect with India’s rich spiritual traditions.
The Home Minister added that investing in places of faith and heritage is an investment in preserving the country’s history, culture, and civilizational values.
