New Delhi, June 19: The Union Public Service Commission has expanded its administrative infrastructure with the inauguration of a new office at the Talkatora Annexe Building in New Delhi.

UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar, along with members of the Commission, formally inaugurated the facility, which has been established to address increasing space requirements and support the Commission’s expanding responsibilities.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Ajay Kumar said the Commission has been facing office space constraints for several years as its functions and institutional responsibilities have grown significantly.

He noted that several offices would be shifted to the Talkatora Annexe Building on an interim basis while permanent infrastructure is developed at Dholpur House.

The UPSC Chairman highlighted that the Commission’s growing mandate, including the establishment of a Centre of Excellence and other initiatives, requires enhanced infrastructure and better administrative support.

He expressed confidence that the additional office space would improve coordination among various divisions and strengthen operational efficiency.

Dr. Ajay Kumar reiterated that UPSC continues to play a crucial role in India’s governance system by ensuring transparent, fair, and merit-based recruitment to civil services and government posts.

He said the expanded infrastructure would help the Commission discharge its constitutional responsibilities more effectively and enhance service delivery related to examinations and recruitment.

The Union Public Service Commission traces its origins to the recommendations of the Lee Commission, which led to the establishment of the Public Service Commission in 1926.

Following the adoption of the Constitution of India, it was reconstituted as UPSC and entrusted with conducting merit-based recruitment for the country’s civil services and other public services.

Dholpur House, the headquarters of UPSC, was originally built in 1920 as the residence of Maharaj-Rana Udai Bhan Singh of the former Dholpur State.

After Independence, the building was designated as the Commission’s headquarters in 1952 and has since served as the centre of India’s premier recruitment institution.

The inauguration of the Talkatora Annexe office marks an important step in enhancing UPSC’s institutional capacity. The new facility is expected to support the Commission’s evolving functions and enable more efficient management of recruitment and examination processes in the years ahead.
