New Delhi, June 12: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review security and logistical arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, which is scheduled to take place from July 3 to August 28, 2026.
The meeting was attended by Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indian Army, intelligence agencies, Jammu & Kashmir administration, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and seamless pilgrimage, Amit Shah directed all security agencies to work in close coordination and establish a robust multi-layered security framework along the entire Yatra route. He stressed the need to strengthen existing arrangements through the extensive use of modern technologies, including drones, CCTV surveillance, advanced monitoring systems, and other digital security tools.
The Home Minister instructed that senior officers of CAPFs and Jammu & Kashmir Police remain deployed at key camp locations throughout the pilgrimage to oversee operations and ensure effective coordination on the ground. He also highlighted the importance of providing pilgrims with essential services such as registration, accommodation, healthcare facilities, and disaster management support.
Shah further directed authorities to regulate the movement of pilgrim batches in accordance with weather forecasts and prevailing conditions to ensure safety. He also called for enhanced security measures not only on the pilgrimage route but at major tourist destinations across Jammu & Kashmir, allowing devotees to travel and visit attractions without inconvenience.
Officials informed the meeting that local service providers and animals associated with the Yatra will be registered and issued QR code-enabled identity cards. Special health and fitness camps will also be organized for animals engaged in pilgrimage-related activities.
The review meeting underscored the Centre’s focus on ensuring a secure, well-managed, and pilgrim-friendly Amarnath Yatra through coordinated efforts of security agencies and the Jammu & Kashmir administration.
