Union Home Minister Amit Shah reduces convoy size after PM Modi’s fuel saving appeal

Move seen as part of wider government push to conserve fuel amid West Asia tensions

New Delhi, May 13, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reduced the size of his official convoy to less than half, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and responsible energy use amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.

The decision is in line with the government’s broader effort to promote fuel efficiency and reduce unnecessary consumption as global energy markets remain volatile. The appeal from the Prime Minister has encouraged several ministries to adopt austerity measures and limit non essential fuel usage in official operations.

The move comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens and government departments to conserve fuel, reduce imports, and adopt cost saving practices in response to rising global energy pressures linked to tensions in West Asia.

Officials said the reduction in convoy size is intended to set an example for other leaders and government offices, reinforcing the message of disciplined fuel use at a time when India is managing external supply risks and price instability in global oil markets.

The appeal for conservation has already led to similar measures across departments, with emphasis on reducing vehicular fuel consumption and encouraging more efficient travel arrangements for official work.
