NEET Cancelled: Rahul Gandhi Says ‘Amrit Kaal’ Has Become ‘Vish Kaal’ for Students

Congress MP says lakhs of students left devastated after NEET-UG exam cancellation amid paper leak controversy

The cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 has triggered a major political confrontation, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launching a sharp attack on the Central government over the handling of the national medical entrance examination.

Reacting to the decision to scrap the May 3 NEET-UG exam following allegations of a paper leak, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of failing the country’s youth. He stated that the government’s promise of “Amrit Kaal” had instead pushed students and families into uncertainty and frustration.

The Congress MP alleged that more than 22 lakh aspirants preparing for medical admissions have suffered emotionally and academically due to repeated controversies surrounding competitive examinations. He claimed that years of preparation, financial investment, and personal sacrifices made by students now stand affected because of what he described as administrative failure and corruption in the examination system.

The remarks came shortly after the National Testing Agency announced the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 and confirmed that fresh examination dates would be declared separately. The Centre has also ordered a probe by the CBI into the alleged irregularities linked to the exam paper leak case.

Opposition parties have intensified criticism of the government, demanding accountability and stronger safeguards to restore confidence in the country’s examination process. Meanwhile, anxious students and parents across India are awaiting clarity on the revised examination schedule and admission timeline.
