India Chip OSAT Project by HCL–Foxconn to Strengthen India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

Gautam Buddha Nagar: Under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi, India continues to consolidate its position as a rapidly emerging global economic powerhouse, setting fresh benchmarks in inclusive, innovation-led and technology-driven growth.

Taking a major step towards strengthening the country’s semiconductor ecosystem, the Prime Minister on Friday laid the foundation stone of Uttar Pradesh’s first semiconductor manufacturing project, India Chip, a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, in Gautam Buddha Nagar. The foundation ceremony was conducted through video conferencing.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was present at the project site to mark the historic occasion. The project, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility, entails an investment of over ₹3,700 crore and is located in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. The facility is expected to significantly enhance India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity, reduce dependence on imports, and generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the HCL and Foxconn teams and extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh. He described the project as a landmark achievement in the state’s journey towards becoming a leading global hub for technology and manufacturing, noting that the facility will support critical sectors such as mobile phones, automobiles, and consumer electronics.

The semiconductor unit is also expected to provide a major boost to the Make in India initiative and firmly position Uttar Pradesh on the global semiconductor manufacturing map.
