New Delhi, February 20: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on Thursday held an extensive interaction with postal assistants and sorting assistants from across the country, underlining their pivotal role in the ongoing transformation of the Department of Posts.
The meeting, held at Sanchar Bhawan, brought together 30 representatives from various postal circles along with senior officials, including the Secretary (Posts) and Director General (Posts). The session focused on operational efficiency, technology integration and service delivery improvements aimed at strengthening India Post’s nationwide network.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister described frontline postal employees as the driving force behind the organisation’s modernisation efforts, particularly in ensuring last-mile connectivity and expanding access to financial and digital services. He acknowledged that suggestions received during earlier consultations have been systematically reviewed, with several already implemented and others progressing through policy and administrative channels.
Key discussions revolved around the modernisation of the Post Office Savings Bank system, advancements under the IT 2.0 framework, simplification of digital banking interfaces, and streamlining of processes related to Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI). Participants also raised field-level concerns regarding infrastructure in rural branches, parcel handling systems, tracking mechanisms and customer service enhancements.
The Minister referred to reforms initiated following prior staff consultations, including restructuring of Railway Mail Service (RMS) operations, development of integrated parcel hubs and improved scanning efficiency through handheld devices. He also spoke about efforts to strengthen marketing outreach and explore innovative, market-linked insurance offerings in collaboration with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).

Emphasising accountability and adaptability, Scindia urged employees to embrace technological advancements while maintaining high ethical standards in service delivery. He stressed that continuous improvement and responsiveness to citizen needs are essential as India Post evolves into a modern logistics and financial services platform.
The interactive session provided frontline personnel an opportunity to share practical insights from the ground, reinforcing a collaborative approach to reform. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to excellence, with the Minister expressing confidence that India Post’s workforce will continue to play a central role in shaping its future growth trajectory.
