Patna (Bihar)– Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to launch the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, a 16-day campaign that will cover more than 20 districts and span over 1,300 kilometres. The initiative aims to raise awareness about voter rights and protest against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
The yatra will begin on August 17 from Sasaram in Rohtas district and conclude in Patna on September 1. During the journey, Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by INDIA bloc leaders, will travel across key towns and villages to highlight issues of “vote theft” and the need to safeguard democratic rights.
According to the schedule, the yatra will pass through Dehri on Sone, Kutumba, Aurangabad, Deo, Guraru, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Munger, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur and several other districts. Break days have been marked on August 20, 25 and 31.
Rahul Gandhi described the campaign as a movement to defend the principle of “one person, one vote”. In a post on X, he wrote, “16 days, 20+ districts, 1,300+ km. We are coming among the people with the Voter Adhikar Yatra. This is the fight to protect the most fundamental democratic right. Join us in Bihar to save the Constitution.”
The Congress leader has also intensified his attack on the Election Commission. Earlier today, he released a spoof video inspired by the film Laapataa Ladies, portraying “vote theft” as a police complaint. The clip ends with the message: “Theft of your vote is theft of your right.”
Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly alleged that elections are being “choreographed,” citing examples such as the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency in Karnataka, where he claimed that over one lakh votes were stolen. The Election Commission, however, has asked him to provide a signed declaration to substantiate his allegations.
The Voter Adhikar Yatra comes amid ongoing protests by the INDIA bloc, which has vowed to continue its campaign against alleged electoral irregularities under the banner of “Vote Chori se Azaadi.”
