Delhi Assembly 2025: CM Rekha Gupta Presents CAG Report on Excise Policy

New Delhi : The three-day Delhi Assembly session, featuring the newly elected MLAs, commenced on Monday. On the first day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition MLAs, took their oaths in the presence of Speaker Vijender Gupta. The second day of the session began with an uproar from opposition members as the BJP government tabled the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report titled “Performance Audit on Regulation and Supply of Liquor in Delhi”. This report is one of 14 pending CAG audits related to the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s performance.

Speaker Vijender Gupta informed the assembly that only one report was being presented on Tuesday because the CAG documents are extensive and require adequate time for analysis and discussion. The remaining pending audits cover critical areas such as state finances, public health infrastructure, vehicular air pollution, and the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), among others.

The CAG audit on Delhi’s liquor policy has drawn significant attention due to allegations of irregularities during the AAP government’s tenure. The BJP has repeatedly accused the AAP administration of withholding these reports, claiming that the delays were deliberate attempts to conceal mismanagement and corruption. Opposition members voiced their objections during the session, accusing the BJP government of selectively using the CAG report for political advantage.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, addressing the assembly, asserted that her government is committed to transparency and accountability. She emphasized that tabling the CAG reports is essential to ensure good governance and uphold public trust. The BJP government aims to present all pending CAG audits in the upcoming sessions, facilitating comprehensive discussions on key issues affecting Delhi’s residents.

Meanwhile, opposition MLAs criticized the government’s decision to table only one report, suggesting that the delay in presenting other audits reflects selective disclosure. They called for a clear timeline for presenting the remaining reports, ensuring that all aspects of the previous administration’s performance are thoroughly examined.

As the session progresses, further debates are expected on the findings of the CAG report on Delhi’s liquor policy and other pending audits, shaping the political discourse in the state.
