Syrian Army Bases Targeted in Israeli Military Operations

Israeli troops have carried out raids on Syrian army bases, seizing or destroying weapons found there. The Israeli military stated that its Paratroopers Brigade located rifles, ammunition, and other military equipment left behind by the former Syrian regime. All items discovered during the operation were either confiscated or dismantled to prevent their future use.

A battalion commander, featured in video footage released by the military, explained that the primary objective of these raids was to eliminate the weapons and capabilities of the Syrian army in the targeted areas. The commander emphasized that ensuring these arms do not pose a threat to Israeli security was a key priority. This military action was announced a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israeli forces would maintain an indefinite presence at the peak of Mount Hermon and within the buffer zone along the Syrian border. Netanyahu also reiterated Israel’s demand for the demilitarization of the region south of Damascus, highlighting the importance of maintaining security and stability in the area.

The buffer zone, established as part of past agreements between Israel and Syria, is monitored by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). However, Israel has increased its military presence in the area following the collapse of Syria’s government, citing security concerns. Despite widespread international protests and calls for restraint, Israeli forces have taken control of key strategic locations on Mount Hermon, which is considered vital for monitoring movements and preventing potential attacks. Israeli officials maintain that these measures are essential to safeguard the country’s northern borders from threats posed by both state and non-state actors operating in Syria.

The raids on Syrian army bases are part of Israel’s broader strategy to counter any resurgence of hostile forces near its borders. Israeli military operations in Syria have intensified in recent years, targeting Iranian-backed militias, Hezbollah positions, and Syrian military installations believed to support such groups.
