Jeddah :The IPL mega auction proved to be a high-stakes affair for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), as the franchise emerged with a mix of triumphs and setbacks. Among the highlights was the acquisition of explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan for a whopping Rs 11.25 crore. While Kishan’s addition sparked celebrations within the camp, the team faced a bitter blow, losing their dependable pacer T Natarajan to the Delhi Capitals.
Head coach Daniel Vettori emphasized the significance of Ishan Kishan’s inclusion, calling him a game-changer who would play a pivotal role in SRH’s batting lineup. Kishan, who previously showcased his skills with the Mumbai Indians, is expected to bolster the team’s top order with his aggressive style and ability to turn games in a matter of overs. “Acquiring a player like Ishan gives us a new dimension in our batting order,” said Vettori.
On the bowling front, SRH made notable strides by securing the services of experienced pacer Mohammed Shami for Rs 10 crore and death-over specialist Harshal Patel for Rs 8 crore. Both bowlers bring unique strengths to the lineup, with Shami’s consistency and Harshal’s knack for picking wickets under pressure seen as key assets.
However, the loss of T Natarajan left a void that Vettori acknowledged would be challenging to fill. “Natarajan has been an integral part of our squad, and his move to Delhi Capitals is a tough one for us,” he admitted. Despite this, SRH’s management remained optimistic about their revamped bowling attack, with hopes pinned on their new signings to deliver.
SRH’s auction strategy, led by skipper Pat Cummins and Vettori, showcased a clear focus on balancing experience with explosive potential. By the end of the first day, the team had signed eight players, including a mix of seasoned campaigners and emerging talents, to complement their five retained players.
With these acquisitions, SRH aims to rebuild and challenge for the title in the upcoming season. The franchise is confident that its blend of experienced stars and young talent will set the stage for an exciting campaign. “We’re building a team that can adapt and excel in any situation,” Vettori concluded, underscoring the franchise’s determined approach.
As the auction drama unfolds, SRH fans eagerly await the season, hoping these bold moves translate into success on the field.
