Piyush Goyal Urges Youth to Shape India’s Growth Story, Highlights Economic Resilience

Minister says India is moving towards self-reliance and secure supply chains, while trade agreements are opening global opportunities for businesses and young professionals

New Delhi, October 12, 2026: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday urged young professionals to take an active role in policymaking and nation-building, highlighting India’s economic resilience and growth prospects despite persistent global challenges.

Addressing The Dilli Dialogue 2026, organised by the Indian School of Public Policy and the Chintan Research Foundation, Goyal said young people must contribute fresh perspectives, innovative ideas and a strong sense of purpose to help realise the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Reflecting on the interaction, the minister said India had maintained its growth trajectory despite global headwinds. He described the energy and aspirations of young people as a source of confidence in the country’s future, adding that they would play a decisive role in shaping India’s development.

Goyal emphasised that the youth should not merely inherit the country’s economic progress but actively shape its future through constructive participation in public policy and governance.

Speaking at the forum, he said India was moving towards greater self-reliance, stronger domestic capabilities and enhanced economic security. He stressed the importance of ensuring stable supply chains and retaining control over the key drivers of national growth and development.

“We also want secure supply chains. We want to ensure our economic security,” Goyal said, underlining the need to strengthen the country’s capacity to withstand international disruptions.

The minister also highlighted the role of international trade agreements in expanding opportunities for Indian businesses, startups and young professionals. He said India’s nine free trade agreements covering around 38 developed countries had opened access to markets collectively accounting for approximately $60 trillion in gross domestic product.

According to Goyal, these agreements could help Indian enterprises reach international consumers while creating opportunities for professionals to provide services and work in overseas markets.

He said India’s objective was to participate more actively in the global marketplace, generate employment and encourage young entrepreneurs to develop innovative ideas. Stronger trade partnerships, he added, could complement domestic manufacturing and enterprise development.

Goyal reiterated that economic resilience required a combination of self-reliance, secure supply chains, international engagement and wider participation in the economy. He called for young Indians to contribute to policy discussions and translate their ambitions into practical solutions for the country’s development challenges.

The minister expressed confidence that the determination and creativity of India’s youth would help drive the country towards greater prosperity and support its long-term development goals.
