CHATEAUROUX (FRANCE), July 27 2024 : Manu Bhaker has secured her spot in the final of the 10m women’s air pistol event, providing a much-needed boost to Indian shooting after a lackluster performance by her teammates at the Olympic Games here on Saturday.
Bhaker, showing impressive form, qualified for the final with a score of 580, finishing in third place. Hungarian shooter Veronika Major led the qualifiers with a top score of 582. Indian competitor Rhythm Sangwan fell short, placing 15th with a score of 573. The final is scheduled for Sunday.
This marks Bhaker’s first Olympic final, a significant achievement after her disappointing debut in Tokyo three years ago. The 22-year-old Haryana shooter, who has been highly regarded in international shooting circles from a young age, is aiming to add an Olympic medal to her distinguished career.
Bhaker demonstrated strong performance during the qualifications, starting with 97 points in the first series, securing fourth place. She maintained her position with another 97 in the second series. In contrast, Sangwan’s performance faltered, including a notable low score of 8, which contributed to her drop to 26th place.
