Faridabad, 7th February: The 38th edition of International Surajkund Craft Mela was inaugurated with much fun and fair on Friday 7th February 2025 in Faridabad. Union minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the Mela and presided over the inaugural ceremony. Chief Minister Haryana Nayab Singh Saini was the guest of honour of the program along with Dr. Mohan Yadav chief minister Madhya Pradesh and Mohan Charan Majhi chief minister Odisha.
Others that graced the occasion included Arvind Kumar Sharma, minister of heritage and tourism and other portfolios, vice chairperson Surajkund Mela authority and principle secretary department of heritage and tourism Haryana Kala Ramchandran, Ashutosh Rajan GM Haryana Tourism and additional administrator Surajkund Mela Authority, V. Vidyawati chairperson Surajkund Mela Authority, Dr. Sunil Kumar Chief Administrator Surajkund Mela Authority and Dr. Shaleen Director tourism government of Haryana.
Also present on the occasion was Krishna Gehlawat, the founder member of the Surajkund Mela and the legislator from Rai constituency. She congratulated the organizers on the successful event and extended her best wishes to the participants. She also urged the general public to actively participate in the fair and encourage the craft art.
Speaking on the occasion MLA Krishna Gehlawat highlighted the significant role of Surajkund Mela helping Haryana and its craft art gaining identity at global level. She emphasized that the fair, dedicated to handicrafts, has provided artisans with a remarkable platform. The Mela has been successfully held for several decades, and the current state government has added grandeur and expansion to it. The fair sees participation from almost every state in India, along with international participants. She stated that being part of this Mela is itself a privilege. She also mentioned that the Haryana government has given special importance to handicrafts. This fair is a testament to that priority, providing a major boost to handcrafts. Artisans from across the country have gathered at this event to showcase and exchange their artistic skills. The variety of crafts at the Mela is remarkable, with hand-crafted artistry often surpassing machine-made works. She stressed the need to promote such indigenous art forms with unity.
As a founder member, Krishna Gehlawat also praised the Mela for being a unique blend of art and culture. Renowned artists perform cultural presentations, providing entertainment to the audience and motivating other artists. The Mela also highlights and promotes Haryana’s culture and heritage. The fair brings together art, culture, and crafts, offering a platform for artists to thrive. Special guests, such as the Banchari Nagada artists, have also gained international recognition through this event.
Gehlawat concluded by acknowledging the efforts of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in making Surajkund Mela grander. Under his leadership, both the craft and cultural sectors have received strong support, and Haryana is advancing rapidly in the field of arts and development.
