New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the opening ceremony of India Energy Week 2025, underscored the remarkable growth India has achieved in the last decade. He highlighted that India has now become the 5th largest economy in the world, a testament to the nation’s economic transformation and robust growth trajectory. This milestone is a reflection of the hard work and perseverance of the Indian people, Modi noted, adding that the country has made significant strides toward becoming a global economic powerhouse.
The Prime Minister further emphasized India’s leadership in the renewable energy sector. He shared that India’s solar energy generation capacity has increased a staggering 32 times over the past decade, positioning the country as the third-largest solar power generator in the world. Modi commended the nation’s efforts in leveraging solar energy as a primary resource for sustainable development and energy security.
In line with India’s renewable energy goals, Modi also pointed out that the country’s non-fossil fuel energy capacity has tripled during this period, a remarkable achievement considering the global push for clean energy and environmental sustainability. He acknowledged that India has been committed to the Paris Agreement and that the government has taken several bold steps to diversify the energy mix, reduce carbon emissions, and increase the share of renewable sources in the overall energy portfolio.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in India’s future energy potential, reiterating the government’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. He highlighted the critical role that energy plays in economic growth, job creation, and ensuring energy access for all citizens. Modi emphasized that the country’s energy transition is not just about addressing domestic needs but also about contributing to global energy security and environmental goals.
India’s efforts in advancing renewable energy have been supported by a strong policy framework, including the National Solar Mission, which aims to scale up solar energy production, and various other initiatives aimed at reducing the dependency on traditional fossil fuels. Modi also pointed out that the government has increased investments in infrastructure, research, and development to foster innovation in clean energy technologies.
