Kolkata, May 7, 2026: Suvendu Adhikari suffered a major setback after his personal assistant Chandra was allegedly shot dead by unidentified attackers in the Madhyamgram area of North 24 Parganas district amid rising post poll violence in West Bengal.
Police on Thursday confirmed that a vehicle suspected to be linked to the murder has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials said forensic teams and investigators are examining the vehicle for possible evidence connected to the attack.
According to police sources, the incident took place on Wednesday night when armed assailants allegedly intercepted the vehicle carrying Chandra and opened fire before fleeing from the scene. The victim sustained critical injuries and later died, triggering sharp political reactions across the state.
The killing has further intensified concerns over law and order in West Bengal following the recent election results. Several districts have reported clashes, vandalism and violent incidents involving political workers over the past few days.
The Bharatiya Janata Party accused ruling party supporters of targeting its workers and leaders after the polls, while leaders from the ruling camp denied the allegations and blamed the opposition for attempting to create unrest.
Security has been tightened in sensitive areas of North 24 Parganas as police continue raids to identify and arrest those involved in the murder. Officials said CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts are also being examined as part of the investigation.
