Chennai, May 6, 2026: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay has reached out to the Communist Party of India (CPI), a key constituent of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, seeking support to form the government in Tamil Nadu after the party emerged as the single largest force in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, falling short of the 118-mark required for a simple majority. With no clear majority for any single party or pre-poll alliance, the post-election scenario has opened up intense political negotiations in the state.
Sources indicate that Vijay’s outreach to CPI is part of a broader effort to build consensus and secure external support to form a stable government. The CPI, which contested as part of the DMK-led alliance, is yet to officially respond to the proposal.
The development has triggered heightened political activity in Chennai, with discussions underway across multiple parties regarding possible alignments, support arrangements, and government formation strategies.
As the situation remains fluid, all eyes are now on whether emerging negotiations will translate into a workable majority, potentially reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political landscape in a closely contested Assembly outcome.
