New Delhi :Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, asserting that Parliament must function as “a place for delivery, not drama.” Speaking to reporters outside Parliament before the Winter Session began, he accused Opposition parties of repeatedly disrupting proceedings and turning the House into a “warm-up arena” for elections or a platform to vent frustration after electoral losses.
Referring to the recent Bihar Assembly elections, Modi said some Opposition parties were unable to accept their defeat. “From the statements I heard yesterday, it seems the loss has deeply troubled them,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasised that defeats should not lead to disruption, just as victory should not lead to arrogance.
He criticised the Opposition for stalling the Monsoon Session over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and warned against similar tactics being adopted in the Winter Session. While the Opposition has demanded discussion on the SIR exercise across nine states and three Union Territories, Modi urged parties to approach the issue responsibly.
“The game the Opposition has been playing for the last 10 years is no longer acceptable to the people,” he said, adding that he was ready to offer “a few tips” to help them bring positivity into politics.
The Prime Minister also called for giving more opportunities to young MPs, noting that their ideas and experiences could enrich parliamentary debate and benefit the nation.
