Delhi Social Welfare Minister Inspects ALIMCO Facility to Boost Assistive Aid for Divyangjans

New Delhi, May 22, 2025: In a significant step toward empowering persons with disabilities (Divyangjans), Delhi’s Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST Welfare, Elections, and Cooperation, Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh, visited the headquarters of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in Kanpur. The visit was aimed at ensuring the availability of modern, user-friendly, and technologically advanced assistive devices for Divyangjans residing in the capital.

The minister’s visit is aligned with the broader vision of the Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The campaign focuses on creating a barrier-free and inclusive environment for persons with disabilities across the country.

Speaking during the inspection, Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh stated,

“The Delhi Government is committed to enhancing the quality of life for Divyangjans. With the support of cutting-edge technology and innovative assistive devices from ALIMCO, we aim to make Delhi a more accessible and inclusive city for all.”

During his tour of the manufacturing unit, Shri Praveen Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of ALIMCO, provided a comprehensive overview of the organization’s state-of-the-art facilities and innovations. He showcased a range of newly developed assistive devices tailored to meet the diverse needs of people with different disabilities.

The minister expressed keen interest in collaborating with ALIMCO under Delhi’s Sugamya Sahayak Yojana (Accessible Assistance Scheme). The scheme is a flagship initiative of the Delhi Government, focusing on providing customized support to persons with disabilities by facilitating access to high-quality assistive tools and aids.

“This partnership with ALIMCO can open new doors for better outreach and timely distribution of modern devices to Divyangjans in Delhi,” Shri Singh added, noting that the integration of such technology is critical for building a more equitable society.

The visit concluded with discussions around scaling up the distribution network, introducing localized assessment camps, and enhancing awareness among beneficiaries about the availability of such devices through government schemes.

The move is being seen as a step forward in bridging the accessibility gap for Delhi’s differently-abled population and ensuring they are equipped to lead more independent and dignified lives
