New Delhi, May 10 : In a major escalation, Pakistan launched multiple drone attacks targeting India’s western borders early Saturday morning. The Indian Army confirmed that all hostile drones were swiftly intercepted and destroyed by India’s air defence units, averting significant threats to both civilian and military assets.
According to an official statement shared by the Indian Army on social media platform X, “Pakistan’s blatant attempt to violate India’s sovereignty and endanger civilians is unacceptable. The Indian Army will thwart enemy designs.” The statement underscored the Army’s readiness and firm stance in countering any hostile provocation along the borders.
The Army detailed that at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, multiple armed drones were detected flying over Khasa Cantt in Amritsar. Alert air defence teams engaged the drones without delay, successfully neutralizing the threat.
However, the overnight escalation wasn’t confined to a single area. Between the night of May 9 and the early hours of May 10, drones were sighted at 26 separate locations — spanning from Baramulla in the north to Bhuj in the south — covering both the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
While most drones were intercepted, the Army reported one particularly concerning incident in Ferozepur, where an armed drone targeted a civilian locality. This attack led to severe injuries among family members, underlining the grave danger posed by such cross-border drone strikes.
Military experts highlight that these coordinated drone attacks mark a dangerous escalation by Pakistan, aimed at testing India’s air defence systems and probing vulnerabilities. Armed drones, unlike mere surveillance devices, carry the potential to cause significant harm, especially when aimed at civilian targets.
The Indian Army reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and protect civilians against such provocations. Senior defence officials stated that India remains fully prepared to counter any further escalations and is closely monitoring developments along the western front.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with security agencies on high alert to prevent future incursions. Experts suggest that Pakistan’s increasing use of drone warfare may push India to further strengthen its counter-drone technologies and defence protocols.
As the situation evolves, the Indian Army has assured the public that it remains vigilant and committed to ensuring the nation’s safety.
