Quality primary education in 18 local dialects soon across tribal areas of Chhattisgarh

Raipur , 7 July 2024 :-The Chhattisgarh government, under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s leadership, has launched a significant initiative to enhance primary education quality in local dialects across tribal regions, including remote areas of the state. This initiative includes the development and distribution of bilingual textbooks in 18 regional dialects within tribal belts and scheduled areas.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai highlighted that this decision aims to bridge educational disparities and ensure that every child, regardless of their geographical location or language background, has access to quality education. He emphasized this during interactions with students and teachers in Bagiya village, Jashpur district, where the ‘Sadari’ regional language has been introduced for primary education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Despite Chhattisgarh’s literacy rate of 70.28 percent being below the national average of 76 percent, the government is prioritizing the implementation of NEP 2020, especially in tribal areas. The focus is on making education more inclusive and accessible in children’s native languages, promoting multilingualism, and preserving endangered tribal languages to foster creativity and enhance the learning process.

Local dialects will be integrated into early childhood and primary education stages to improve understanding and academic performance among students. The government also aims to use children’s mother tongue as the primary language of communication between students and teachers.

Additionally, the state government is placing special emphasis on vocational education, planning to expand skill development programs in tribal areas. High-quality textbooks for various courses will be made available in regional languages to achieve these educational objectives effectively.
