Moscow, October 29:A delegation of Indian Members of Parliament attended the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs held in Moscow on Wednesday.
The Indian delegation comprised Rajkumar Chahar and C.N. Manjunath from the Lok Sabha and V. Sivadasan from the Rajya Sabha. The MPs represented India in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation among Asian nations on social, cultural, and developmental issues.
In a post on X, the Embassy of India in Russia stated, “An Indian delegation including Honourable Members of Parliament Rajkumar Chahar and CN Manjunath from the Lok Sabha and V Sivadasan from the Rajya Sabha participated in the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs held today in Moscow.”
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), established in 2006, evolved from the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) founded in 1999 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The APA aims to promote regional cooperation, peace, democracy, and human rights across Asia.
Currently, the APA comprises 44 Member Parliaments and 14 observers, each with voting rights determined by population size. Its guiding framework — the APA Charter and Tehran Declaration — outlines a vision for Asian integration and collaboration in social, cultural, and environmental development.
The APA’s first plenary session saw Haddad Adel, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, elected as its first President. Since its inception, the APA has worked to create a shared platform for legislators to promote sustainable development, peace, and inter-parliamentary cooperation across the continent.
