Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped, Two Arrested While Key Accused Remains Missing

Police launch manhunt after brutal assault in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur; action taken against officers over alleged delay in registering complaint.

Kanpur– A disturbing case of alleged gang rape has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district, where a woman in her 20s was reportedly assaulted by three men while travelling with her fiancé. Authorities have confirmed that two suspects are in custody, while a third accused is still absconding.

The incident reportedly took place last week in the Khaga Kotwali area when the couple halted briefly during their journey due to extreme heat. According to police sources, two men approached them, questioned their presence, and soon turned aggressive.

Investigators said the accused allegedly attacked the fiancé, restrained him, and sexually assaulted the woman. A third individual was later called to the spot, after which the assault allegedly continued for several hours.

The survivor’s fiancé told police that the attackers not only physically assaulted them but also threatened them, recorded videos, and forced a small online money transfer. The couple was allegedly coerced into recording a statement claiming no wrongdoing had occurred, in an attempt to prevent them from approaching authorities.

The family has claimed that when they initially went to the local police station, their complaint was not immediately registered. An FIR was eventually filed after senior officials intervened.

Based on evidence, including digital transaction trails and identification by the survivor, police arrested two accused. The third suspect remains at large, and a cash reward has been announced for information leading to his arrest.

Authorities have filed charges under rape, extortion, and relevant provisions of cyber laws. Multiple police teams, including specialized units, are currently conducting raids to locate the absconding accused.

In response to alleged negligence, departmental action has been taken against local police personnel. The station house officer has been removed from duty, and another officer has been suspended.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has alleged intimidation attempts and pressure to withdraw the case. Political reactions have also surfaced, with opposition representatives visiting the village and demanding strict action. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and all angles are being examined.
