Israeli Tourist, Homestay Operator Gangraped While Stargazing in Karnataka’s Hampi

Hampi : In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a 29-year-old homestay operator were allegedly gang-raped near Hampi on Thursday night. The assault took place while they were stargazing by the banks of Sanapur Lake, a popular tourist spot near the UNESCO World Heritage site.

According to police sources, the victims were part of a group of five, including three male tourists—one from the United States and two from India. The attack occurred around 11 pm when a group of unidentified men, who had arrived on a motorcycle, initially inquired about petrol and then demanded ₹100 from them. The situation quickly escalated as the attackers turned violent and overpowered the group.

The group of tourists had ventured to the lake to enjoy the night sky when they were confronted by the assailants. As per the victims’ statement, the attackers threatened them and forcibly took the women away before sexually assaulting them. The male tourists, who attempted to intervene, were allegedly assaulted and restrained.

Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene, leaving the victims traumatized. The women managed to reach a nearby village, where they sought help from locals. They later approached the police to report the crime.

Local authorities were alerted immediately, and a police team was dispatched to the site. Senior police officials, including forensic teams, have since conducted an extensive examination of the crime scene. The victims have been provided medical assistance, and their statements have been recorded.

Karnataka police have formed special teams to track down the accused. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being analyzed, and efforts are underway to identify the suspects based on the victims’ descriptions. Authorities have assured swift action and are in touch with the Israeli consulate to provide assistance to the affected tourist.

This horrifying incident has raised concerns about the safety of tourists in Hampi, a historic and scenic destination frequently visited by international travelers.
