Delhi HC Virtual Hearing Disrupted by Obscene Content, Probe Launched

Repeated disruptions during video hearing raise concerns over cybersecurity in court proceedings

New Delhi- Suspected cyber intrusion interrupts proceedings as police begin investigation into security breach

Virtual proceedings at the Delhi High Court were disrupted multiple times on Wednesday after obscene content was played during a live hearing conducted via video conferencing, prompting a police probe into a possible cyber breach.

The incident occurred during a session presided over the Chief Justice, where an unidentified participant allegedly streamed objectionable videos on more than one occasion, interrupting the court’s functioning.

Following the disruptions, the court administration approached the Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police, seeking an investigation into the matter.

Officials said a preliminary inquiry has been initiated to determine whether there was unauthorised access to the virtual hearing system. At one point during the session, a message reading “you’ve been hacked” appeared on screen, further raising concerns about a possible security breach.

Additionally, an automated audio message claiming that the system had been hacked was also heard during the proceedings. However, authorities have not yet verified the authenticity or source of these messages.

The cyber unit is expected to examine system logs, user access records and potential vulnerabilities in the video conferencing platform used for the hearing. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing probe.
