Vice President Radhakrishnan to Lead Civil Services Day 2026 Celebrations in Delhi

Nationwide Civil Servants to Reaffirm Commitment to Citizen Centric Governance

New Delhi, April 20, 2026: The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances DARPG will observe the 18th Civil Services Day on April 21, 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan set to deliver the keynote address.

The annual event is aimed at encouraging civil servants across the country to renew their commitment to public service, efficiency and citizen focused administration.

This year’s theme, “Viksit Bharat Citizen Centric Governance and Development at the Last Mile,” aligns with the broader national vision of a developed India by 2047 and highlights the importance of inclusive and transparent governance.

Officials said the Civil Services Day holds historical significance as it commemorates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s address to the first batch of civil service probationers in 1947, where he described the civil services as the steel frame of India.

The inaugural session will also include an address by Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh and a welcome speech by Cabinet Secretary Dr. T. V. Somanathan.A key highlight of the programme will be a panel discussion featuring experts from government, industry and policy institutions focusing on improving accountability, innovation and service delivery in governance.

The event will include four breakout sessions covering major national priorities such as sustainable livelihoods, healthcare challenges, farmer welfare and clean energy transition.

The session on PM Vishwakarma will focus on promoting traditional artisans and small enterprises, while another session will address strategies to combat non communicable diseases in India.A separate discussion will examine financial risk mitigation for farmers through schemes like Kisan Credit Card, and another will focus on accelerating India’s net zero goals through renewable energy initiatives.

Senior officials from the central and state governments, including top bureaucrats and district administrators, are expected to participate in the day long programme.The concluding session will emphasise ethics and efficiency in civil services, reinforcing the need for integrity driven governance.

Officials said the event is designed to strengthen last mile delivery of public services and improve coordination between different levels of administration.Civil Services Day continues to serve as a platform for policy dialogue, knowledge sharing and recognition of best practices in governance across the country.

The 2026 edition is expected to further reinforce India’s commitment to building a responsive and citizen centric administrative system.
