Mumbai, May 3: The Kapoor family is mourning the loss of its matriarch, Nirmal Surinder Kapoor, wife of the late film producer Surinder Kapoor and mother of actors Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, and Sanjay Kapoor. She passed away on Friday, May 2, at the age of 90 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.
On Saturday, family members, close friends, and several Bollywood personalities gathered at Anil Kapoor’s Juhu residence to pay their last respects. Among those spotted were Sonam Kapoor and cousin Arjun Kapoor, who arrived together to stand by the grieving family. A video clip shared on Instagram showed Sonam leaving the residence in her car. Actress Rani Mukerji was also seen visiting the Kapoor household to offer condolences.
Nirmal Surinder Kapoor, who married Surinder Kapoor in 1955, remained a key pillar of the Kapoor family. While Surinder Kapoor made his name as a respected producer, Nirmal was known for her strength and grace, raising her children to become some of Bollywood’s most well-known figures.
The Kapoor family is considered one of the most influential in the Indian film industry. While Boney Kapoor has made his mark as a producer, Anil Kapoor continues to enjoy a celebrated acting career, and Sanjay Kapoor has also carved his niche in films and web series.
Anil Kapoor, recently seen in hits like Animal and Fighter, was seen overseeing the arrangements at the Juhu home and personally receiving friends and colleagues. The atmosphere at the residence was somber, with well-wishers gathering quietly to honor the memory of Nirmal Kapoor.
The loss has been deeply felt not only by the Kapoor family but also across the film fraternity, where she was known as a warm and dignified presence in one of Bollywood’s most prominent families. Tributes have been pouring in on social media from fans, friends, and industry colleagues, remembering Nirmal Kapoor as a woman of remarkable resilience and grace.
The Kapoor family has yet to issue an official statement, but a prayer meet is expected to be organized in the coming days.
