New Delhi, August 20, 2026; India’s upcoming limited-overs tour of Bangladesh is facing renewed uncertainty, with the two cricket boards still discussing the timing of the proposed series.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has indicated that the schedule could be adjusted depending on the outcome of its ongoing talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The development comes with the opening match of the series currently less than two weeks away.
India are slated to play three ODIs and three T20Is during the Bangladesh tour. The first ODI is presently scheduled for September 3, with matches planned in Dhaka and Chattogram. However, the BCCI has yet to formally confirm the tour.
BCB president Tamim Iqbal said the two boards remain engaged in discussions and that the dates could be moved if necessary. His comments came during an event in Dhaka where the BCB unveiled the schedule for the Game Development Trophy.
The age-group competition is currently planned at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from August 28 to September 9. Tamim explained that the tournament could be relocated if India’s series is finalised for the same period, allowing the board to accommodate both commitments.
The India tour had initially been planned for August last year but was subsequently pushed back to September 2026. Despite the revised schedule being announced by the BCB earlier this year, the absence of a formal confirmation from the Indian board has kept the status of the series uncertain.
Relations between the two cricket administrations had also come under strain in recent months following developments involving Bangladesh players and the Indian Premier League, followed by Bangladesh’s decision not to send its team for the T20 World Cup hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The situation has shown signs of improvement since Tamim assumed the BCB presidency. His recent visit to India, including a reported visit to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, has also contributed to renewed engagement between the two boards.
With discussions continuing, the final dates and confirmation of India’s Bangladesh tour are expected to become clearer in the coming days.
