India Sends Fresh Medical Aid to Kabul Hospital, Strengthens Humanitarian Support for Afghanistan

New Delhi, August 20, 2026; India has stepped up its humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan by sending a fresh consignment of medicines and medical supplies to a government-run hospital in Kabul, reaffirming its continued focus on supporting the Afghan people.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the latest assistance is aimed at strengthening healthcare services in Afghanistan. The shipment includes essential medicines and medical consumables required for the functioning of public healthcare facilities.

The latest move comes as India continues to maintain humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan through medical assistance, emergency relief and development-related support. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal recently said India’s engagement with Afghanistan had expanded over the past year, particularly in the areas of diplomatic contacts, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.

Jaiswal said India’s future engagement with Afghanistan would continue to be shaped by these priorities while maintaining its long-standing relationship with the Afghan people.

India has also responded to humanitarian emergencies in Afghanistan. Last month, New Delhi sent food supplies and family tents to Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority following devastating floods in Nuristan, providing assistance to communities affected by the disaster.

India’s recent healthcare support follows another shipment of five tonnes of essential medicines delivered to Kabul in June. The consignment was part of New Delhi’s continuing efforts to help meet critical healthcare requirements in the country.

Earlier, on May 22, India supplied 20 tonnes of materials required for the preparation of BCG and Tetanus-Diphtheria vaccines to support Afghanistan’s child immunisation programme. The assistance was intended to strengthen vaccination efforts and improve access to essential healthcare for children.

Through these successive consignments, India has continued to underline its commitment to humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan, with healthcare, emergency relief and support for vulnerable communities remaining key areas of engagement.
