Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of practising politics centred on vote banks while neglecting the interests of youth, Scheduled Castes and backward communities. He also defended the Centre’s measures to curb examination paper leaks and reiterated his government‘s commitment to transparent recruitment and corruption-free governance.
Addressing mediapersons at Haryana Niwas, Saini alleged that the Congress had repeatedly used socially and economically weaker sections for electoral gains instead of ensuring their long-term welfare. Referring to former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, he claimed that the Congress had failed to give due respect to a leader who stood with the party during difficult periods, describing it as an insult to Dalits and other disadvantaged sections.
Commenting on the NEET paper leak issue, the Chief Minister said the Central Government had acted swiftly by introducing stricter legal provisions and tightening the recruitment process. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had consistently prioritised safeguarding the future of young people and made it clear that those attempting to compromise recruitment examinations would face strict legal action.
Saini asserted that the present system was designed to ensure fair and merit-based recruitment, unlike previous governments where transparency was often questioned. According to him, earlier recruitment examinations were marked by irregularities that created uncertainty for deserving candidates. He said today’s younger generation was largely unaware of the challenges faced by aspirants during earlier Congress governments, when examination processes frequently came under criticism.
The Chief Minister also questioned both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party over recruitment-related issues in Punjab. Referring to recent controversies surrounding examination papers and recruitment results in the neighbouring state, he said the Punjab government should explain the concerns raised by candidates regarding the fairness of the selection process. He also recalled earlier statements by AAP leaders promising accountability in the event of paper leaks and said recent developments demanded answers.
He further criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying the party should first explain its record on providing employment opportunities and ensuring fair recruitment during its years in power.
On delays in recruitment, Saini alleged that certain groups were deliberately attempting to obstruct the hiring process through repeated legal and procedural hurdles. He said his government would continue to ensure that recruitment remained transparent, merit-driven and free from external interference.
Highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Haryana, the Chief Minister said employment opportunities had expanded while recruitment procedures had become more transparent. He maintained that deserving candidates were now receiving appointments without discrimination.
Responding to questions on sports, Saini criticised the previous Congress government, claiming that athletes today receive recognition based on their performances rather than political considerations. He said Haryana’s sports ecosystem had undergone significant expansion with the establishment of more than 2,000 sports nurseries across the state to identify and train young talent.
The Chief Minister announced that the Haryana Government would soon organise a special ceremony to honour athletes from the state who won medals at the Commonwealth Games. Congratulating the medal winners, their families and coaches, he said their achievements had further strengthened Haryana’s reputation as one of India’s leading sporting states.
