Government Pledges Wider Reach for Bhagavad Gita as Haryana Marks Guru Purnima

The Haryana Bhagavad Gita initiative received fresh momentum on Guru Purnima as Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to every household and expanding Gita education across the state.

Addressing the gathering during his visit to Gita Gyan Sansthan in Kurukshetra on the occasion of Guru Purnima, the Chief Minister described the Bhagavad Gita as a timeless guide that offers practical wisdom for life rather than being confined to a religious text. He said its principles of righteous conduct, duty, knowledge and devotion continue to hold relevance in building a progressive and responsible society.

During the visit, Saini met renowned spiritual leader Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Maharaj at the Radha Krishna Temple within the institute. As part of the traditional Guru-Shishya custom observed on Guru Purnima, the Chief Minister honoured the saint with a ceremonial shawl and sought his blessings. He also participated in prayers accompanied by Vedic chants and wished for peace, prosperity and well-being for the people of Haryana.

Highlighting Kurukshetra’s spiritual significance, the Chief Minister said the sacred city occupies a unique place in India’s civilisational history as the birthplace of the message of the Bhagavad Gita. He noted that the state government is working to transform Kurukshetra into an internationally recognised centre for Gita studies and cultural tourism through the development of sites such as Brahma Sarovar, Jyotisar and Gita Gyan Sansthan.

Saini said the annual International Gita Mahotsav has evolved into a globally recognised cultural celebration, adding that the contribution of saints and spiritual leaders has played a vital role in carrying the message of the Gita beyond national boundaries.

Speaking about the significance of Guru Purnima, he said the occasion reminds people to honour the guidance received from teachers, parents and society. Referring to the government’s development agenda, the Chief Minister said welfare initiatives for farmers, women, youth and economically weaker sections are being implemented with the spirit of selfless service inspired by the teachings of the Gita. He expressed confidence that such values would contribute to achieving the vision of a developed Haryana and a developed India by 2047.

On the occasion, Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Maharaj praised the Chief Minister’s public service and described him as a leader committed to action. He appreciated the government’s initiatives aimed at expanding awareness of the Bhagavad Gita, stating that its teachings encourage discipline, dedication, moral values and national consciousness among citizens. He also acknowledged the state’s efforts in promoting the Gita through various programmes and institutions.

Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Police Chandra Mohan, Sampurnanand Maharaj, Chairman Gurnam Saini, along with several distinguished guests, devotees and officials, attended the Guru Purnima celebrations.
