Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attends opening ceremony as lakhs of pilgrims register for the annual yatra in Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand: The sacred portals of Kedarnath Temple were opened to devotees on Wednesday with traditional rituals and Vedic chants, marking a key milestone in this year’s Char Dham Yatra. The ceremony was attended by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with a large number of devotees.

The temple gates were opened in the morning following elaborate rituals that began at dawn, with priests conducting ceremonies in accordance with age-old traditions. The shrine was decorated with large quantities of flowers, and a military band performance added to the ceremonial atmosphere.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister described Kedarnath as a symbol of India’s spiritual and cultural legacy and highlighted the improvements made in infrastructure and facilities for pilgrims following recent reconstruction efforts. He also urged locals to extend hospitality and support to visitors arriving for the pilgrimage season.

The Char Dham Yatra had already commenced on April 19 with the opening of Gangotri Temple and Yamunotri Temple on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The portals of Kedarnath opened on April 22, while Badrinath Temple is scheduled to open on April 23.

Officials said that over 20 lakh pilgrims have already registered for the yatra this year, indicating strong turnout and growing interest among devotees. Authorities have also put in place guidelines to ensure smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, including restrictions on mobile phone usage, photography, and videography within a designated area near the temple premises.

With the opening of Kedarnath, the annual pilgrimage is now in full swing, as thousands of devotees begin their journey to the revered Himalayan shrines.
