Ghaziabad Encounter Ends in Death of Rape-Murder Accused as Family Refuses to Claim Body

55-year-old accused in minor’s rape and murder case shot dead during police encounter in Loni area; locals back action, investigation continues.

Ghaziabad- A 55-year-old man accused of raping and killing his four-year-old niece was shot dead in a police encounter in Ghaziabad, with his family later refusing to claim the body. The accused, identified as Jasim, had been on the run after the child’s body was recovered from a car in the Shalimar Garden area.

According to police, the accused was tracked using CCTV footage from a railway station in Delhi while attempting to flee. Acting on specific inputs, police teams laid a trap near the Banthla canal in Loni under the Teela Mod police station limits.

Officials said the accused allegedly opened fire while trying to escape, prompting retaliatory action by the police. He sustained serious injuries during the exchange and was later declared dead. Two policemen were also injured in the encounter but are reported to be out of danger.

Authorities stated that weapons and cartridges linked to the crime were recovered from the accused. The body has been sent for postmortem examination, and legal formalities are underway.

In a notable development, the accused’s family members declined to take custody of the body, stating that they had disowned him after the crime. Relatives who arrived from Muzaffarnagar said they considered him “dead” from the day the incident came to light.

Meanwhile, some local residents in the area expressed support for the police action, calling it justified given the nature of the crime. Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
