New Delhi, July 3, 2026: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Friday said that a vibrant democracy depends on a free and responsible press that informs citizens, encourages informed debate and upholds the highest standards of journalism while remaining committed to facts and credibility.
Addressing the 80th Foundation Day celebrations of Organiser Weekly at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, the Vice President described the publication’s eight-decade journey as one marked by resilience, continuity and sustained contribution to India’s democratic discourse.
He noted that the publication’s legal challenge against censorship in 1949 became a landmark moment in the evolution of media freedom in independent India, reinforcing the importance of an independent press willing to ask difficult questions.
Recalling the publication’s role during the Emergency, Radhakrishnan said Organiser and its sister publication The Motherland emerged as important voices defending constitutional democracy. He observed that the true value of press freedom lies in exercising it with courage and responsibility, especially during challenging times.
The Vice President also highlighted the publication’s engagement over the decades with issues relating to national unity, security, governance and culture, including developments concerning Jammu and Kashmir, the Praja Parishad movement, the wars with China and Pakistan, the Swadeshi movement and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Describing the publication as the “Voice of the Soul of the Nation,” Radhakrishnan said Organiser has consistently highlighted issues that many chose to ignore and has remained guided by a commitment to the larger national interest and the vision of a strong, prosperous and self-confident India.
During the event, the Vice President released two books—“Hindutva Discourse After Independence – Reading With Organiser Pages” by Prafulla Ketkar and Gautam Choubey, and “Temples Beyond Bharat” by Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo. He said the publication’s extensive archives provide an important record of India’s political, social and intellectual evolution since Independence.
The function was attended by RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, Bharat Prakashan Limited Managing Director Arun Kumar Goyal, Organiser Editor Prafulla Ketkar, and RSS Delhi Prant Sanghchalak Dr. Anil Aggarwal, among others.
