The move coincides with the nationwide implementation of the Act and aims to strengthen rural employment, improve wages, and promote inclusive growth.

A major highlight of the notification is the introduction of a ₹300 interim base wage rate, ensuring that no worker under the programme receives less than ₹300 per day. The revised structure increases wages across all 34 States and Union Territories, with 21 regions being brought up to the new benchmark.

Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to empowering rural families and building a developed India through stronger villages. He highlighted that the expansion of guaranteed employment to 125 days, along with improved wages, will enhance income security and purchasing power.

The national average wage has increased from ₹298.8 per day under MGNREGA to ₹327.4 per day under VB–G RAM G, marking an average rise of ₹28.6 per day. States that previously had lower wage rates have received the highest benefits, helping reduce regional disparities.

Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland recorded the highest percentage increase of nearly 24.5 per cent, while several other states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh also witnessed significant revisions.

The government stated that the transparent wage mechanism will support rural prosperity, create durable assets, and strengthen the vision of Viksit Bharat by ensuring better opportunities for every rural household.
